MORRIS HELPS BUILD FUTURE FOR CHORLEY RUNNERS

Members of a Chorley running club are being given the chance to coach younger athletes thanks to a donation from local housebuilder Morris.

Chorley Harriers has almost 150 runners that meet every week to train for competitive track, cross-country and fell races.

Morris’ donation means that some lucky members of the youth team will be able to attend a level one coaching course and learn how to improve runners’ speed, endurance, flexibility and strength.

Martin Harrington, promotions officer at Chorley Harriers, said: “We encourage our members to make the most of their running abilities, whether it’s improving personal performance or learning how to teach others essential techniques.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for our teenage members who may be considering an athletic career, and it’s great for the club too. We’re always in need of enthusiastic, qualified coaches to help our nine to 16 year-olds keep fit and get faster.”

Julie Russell, sales advisor at Morris’ Rivington View development off Eaves Lane in Chorley, visited Chorley Harriers’ training ground nearby to find out what the donation would mean to the club.

She said: “There were children of mixed abilities in the training session who all share a passion for running and seemed to have fun with the coaches.

“It was a great feeling knowing we may be able to help some of the members pursue a coaching career and help them give something back to the running club.”

Morris donated the money on behalf of its Rivington View development which has a mix of properties, including three bedroom townhouses and four bedroom detached homes, available to buy from £108,500.

For more information contact the sales office, open seven days a week between 10.30am and 5.30pm, on 01257 278432. Alternatively, visit www.morrishomes.co.uk/rivington-view/

Members may be interested to know that I successfully completed the MdS last Saturday 5 th April and officially finished 584 th out of a starting line up of 802 competitors.

It is not too late to sponsor me and proceeds are being split equally between “Facing Africa”, the official mds charity and Cancer Research.

For the record I completed 153 miles over 7 days in temperatures reaching 48ºC in a time of 55 hours, 22 minutes and 10 seconds.

I did prepare a statement for our web site before going out to the Sahara, but for some unknown reason it did not appear.

Anyone wishing to make a contribution can ring me on 01772 459383 or 01257 452634
